I don't have the book my dude but reading from sparknotes the old codger got offended in the story while in twin peaks the lines come from a place of flirtation.
I could understand the problem with using the same lines if they were also used in the same context but I don't see the issue using similar lines (like I said I don't have the book so I can't really tell) that gives the scene a tone separate from the book.
