Its usually 5-7 minutes of them describing the philosophers life and what led him to philosophy, and then a very generalized overview that encompasses the main ideas of their philosophy.

Its supposed to be a way for you to see if you have interest in what they're talking about, and if you want to explore it further.

I don't disagree with some of the broader points in the first video, as in the idea that one person can never fully understand another, but the way they go about it is retarded. The second video is pure trash though, and unfortunately seems to be their current trend, either in entire videos or just as one or two points in an otherwise good video.

They're only good for the now rare history style vids, which sucks since I used to like 'em

The second video is a pathetic generalisation.

They make the mistake of treating philosophers like ancient self-help writers. If you want a basic overview of a thinker, there are plenty of scholarly commentaries or biographies that display the legacy and importance of their works. This is /lit/ after all, read an actual fucking book.
