Sad bump
>>
Specialist tax barrister here. I read The Pale King exclusively, repeatedly, and in perpetuity.

My father is a lawyer and he reads anything by/about Churchill and lots of history, mostly ancient Greek/Roman and European. The only fiction he reads is like Dumas and Defoe etc. True patrician.
>>
Law student, son of a lawyer, lawyer in a few years.
I'm mostly reading philosophy and very little specific legal theory. I read a lot of contemporary thomism, going through the bible, will read more mysticism soon. Also currently reading Fredrick Copleston, Cicero and Flannery O'Connor.

Ouch... You won't make it, son. I'm sorry. Better start training those wrists in preparation for burger flipping.
>>

Law student.

I'm currently reading 'Voyage to Arcturus' and my favourite author is Gene Wolfe. You might have guessed by now that I'm a very mediocre law student.

>>8684309
Nerd. I bet you answer questions during lectures.
>>
>>8684332
I don't go to lectures. I attended only two classes regularly thus far.
But yes, I answered questions back then.
>>
>>8684332
Also, my favorite fiction author is Gene Wolfe.

How can I lump Wolfe and Alasdair MacIntyre in the same category my dude
>>
>>8684353
They both write. How's that?

And MacIntyre sounds interesting. Anything in particular that should come before 'After Virtue?'
>>
>>8684358
No, he's very pedantic and explains his thesis and terms well.
I'm assuming he won't be your first philosophy ever.
His other works on ethics expand on After Virtue, and they essentially make a complete philosophical narrative. Kinda like Book of the New Sun lel.

>>8684332
>not speaking during lectures
How else are you going to assert your dominance over the other students? Grades alone? Psh.
>>
>>8684309
>I'm in law school
>I don't read any legal theory, just fiction
You dun fucked up now ya hear
>>
>>8684833
Can you read? Because, as far as I can tell, neither philosophy nor mysticism is fiction.

same shit as everyone else. I tried reading pic related but it was boring as fuck. mixing your profession with your reading is a bad idea, just makes you feel like you are at work 24/7, few times I had to bust out my old books to check if remembered things correctly, it kills enjoyment
>>
>>8684833
>reading legal theory
it just clutters your brain and gives you questions you will never have time in class to talk about. all the legal theory you need is already part of the curriculum, seeking anything more is like studying art without knowing brush types. first step is always having a 100% attendance
>>
I can tell you two things, being the son of a lawyer.

A lawyer whos made it will read whatever the fuck they want to. My mother, the lawyer, reads those retarded erotic fiction books, the bible, and political books. Otherwise she is too busy to give a shit about reading.

A lawyer who hasn't made it, will only be reading books in order to be a successful lawyer. AKA in order to pass the BAR.

My dad is probably the best lawyer in the country and he reads theology, history, politics, the bible over and over again for 30 years, Russians. It doesn't amount to more than 10 books annually now, but it adds up.
He doesn't read to improve his practice at all directly.
