Should I read bad books?

You should read well written books. You should read badly written but important books with good, interesting, and insightful arguments (that is, badly written books with good philosophy). You should not read badly written books without good philosophy.

So nothing like John Grisham books or Harry Potter?

If you didn't read Harry Potter when you were a wee tyke, I wouldn't recommend reading it now. It certainly won't cultivate your mind in the shape of the forms of good thought or true beauty.
Your body is what it eats. Your mind is what it reads.
I read pleb shit here and there, specially after a dense book
No I just read short things in between

John Grisham has some things that are good.
But they are good in sense of pure entertainment, not for any literary reason. It's like a good TV-show in book format.

i don't necessarily know whether a book will strike me as bad until i read it. i thought i'd love bleeding edge but i couldn't stand it. i thought i'd hate pride and prejudice but it was pretty good.
oh, were you suggesting that some books are objectively bad?
