Why is it better to have an English degree over a philosophy degree or some STEM? What's to be reaped from studying English or is it another hopeless major?

Getting an English degree is a waste of time and money. As worthless as a Philosophy degree.
It's good enough to show "Hey I made it through school!" so some places might hire you, but it doesn't have any usefulness outside of that.

>What's to be reaped
please don't pollute my english major with your disgusting reductionism and unconscious ideology

B-but it doesn't produce enough for the capitalist machinery, cuck

so why should those two not be applied to an english degree? Please explain for someone who may just say fuck school and move to ireland

Everything is as you think it to be. Don't think "Why is it better?" as if anyone can predict what you would do with such a thing, but ask "Why do (did) I want it?" Always term questions like this in a way you can answer for yourself, as no one knows what you truly want.
Everything is language, anon-kun. An English degree is today's equivalent of the all-round philosophy education from 3000 years ago.

English degrees are fun, and tend to improve your overall knowledge and writing proficiency. Anything past a BA is useless for the job market, so only go to grad school if you're just doing it for kicks. Minoring in English while getting an actual career-path training is a decent idea.

>unconscious ideology
what did he mean by this

I have family from Scotland so I could get a visa or whatever I need easily because of it. In general I want to move somewhere different and Scotland is a viable option.
