Want are the best books to read in the KJV? I'm interested in gnarly stories like that of Sodom and anything to do with Satan or Death and the wrath of God and all that shit. Also, anything with supreme lyricism but that is also simple in its prose.
Not particularly interested in the poems of Psalms and shit, more the stories.
Love the heavy use of the word 'and' in the bible. It's like all the writers of the book read heaps of Cormac McCarthy before sitting down to talk about God n shit.

If you aren't meming then I would suggest first and second Kings, Job, Matthew, Ezra (has top tier 'ands').
Also try and get some decent translations of the cabal. Try to read the bible with every book written, Director's Cut. It makes Gnosticism seem like the only logical conclusion.

Seconding the two Books of Kings.
Also, Song of Songs for the porn.

hectic thanks! not meming at all. Well the Cormac McCarthy thing was of course, but genuinely keen to read this beast coz its mad /lit/
Ezechiel. I am now working at segment in my largely metafictional novel where description of a place is written in style of description of temple in this book

Ecclesiastes and Jeremiah. Matthew is the best Gospel, and the Corinthian letters are pretty excellent.
I'd say Job, but you said no poetry, so...
OT: Samuel, Genesis, Joshua, Ruth, Exodus
NT: John, Matthew, Luke-Acts

I find the Gospels so different that ranking them is like comparing apples to oranges.
Mark is old and mysterious because of it's barebones nature
Matthew is written like a great novel
Luke is written like a historical book, but still possesses the beauties of the other Gospels
John is totally different from the other three. More poetic, and personal.
Very hard to pick a favourite

>reading KJV and not pic related
Pic related is not so gaudy like the KJV, but retains the poetic nature of the New Testament and does not resort to overly-modernized language either. It's also written without the pretensions of biblical scholarship

>reading the KJV
enjoy your shitty protestant bible with missing books

Actually, that's a misconception. The KJV was originally translated with the apocrypha, but it was removed in later versions due to other people messing about.

Gospel of John

try to be more subtle than quoting the dust jacket

>the pretensions of biblical scholarship
Do you mean accuracy?
Legitimate question. I see this version posted a lot but have never heard any theologian or pastor mention it or use it, which tells me that it's either liberal or inaccurate.

Triple 9s of truth, but I'll still defend my decision.
John always felt too mystical to me and Luke was too sentimental. Mark didn't offer much in my opinion. So Matthew remains the perfect Gospel.

Pretty much Genesis to be straight with you, my love.
>>8635889
>Jeremiah
That whole book is just about the boiling wrath of God. I love how it's the exact opposite of the pg-13 version people talk about all the time.

God got really hung up on that metaphor of Israel being his wife.
>>8637584
jews thought too it was just a metaphor, didn't put out, were bitchy and the god eventually ditched them
>>8635088
From this description, you'd really dig Revelations. The whole thing is a crazy fever dream constructed out of metal lyrics. Think of experiencing the apocalypse on acid.

Easily 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, Deuteronomy, Esther, and Jeremiah.
In the NT would be Matthew, Acts, and Revelation.
Genesis to Deuteronomy is all you need

>Esther
my man. The only book that never even once mentions god

revelations. really well-structured, great eschatological imagery
