I have a desktop but I'd like to buy a laptop mainly for writing on. I just want to be able to go into libraries/cafés and write there.

Any recommendations for a decent cheap laptop with not too small a keyboard?

Or any older thinkpad, like the X201 for example.

They are not made any longer, but you can find them refurbished or used for very cheap. Whatever you do, don't buy a new laptop. There are no commercial laptop barnds that still make laptops with good keyboards and build quality. This is the main reason for getting a thinkpad from an older generation (the t420 is one of the last good models) - they keyboard is fantastic. Add to that excellent build quality and good features, and standard hardware which makes it easy to install Linux (this might not be a selling point if you're not interested in technology at all, but you'd be amazed at how much your workflow can improve by dumping wangbloze).

they aren't, but they were very popular business laptops, so they flooded the used/refurbished market and are available for low prices. t420 with some linux distro is pretty damn comfy
