Does anyone have any experience with this? I write really short stories (1,000-2,500 w.) but have never had interest in publishing.

Some of my friends have published their short stories and I'm wondering if there are any benefits aside from monetary gain?

Weird question. What non-obvious benefits do you imagine there could be?

I should have listed some of my thoughts in the op

Are they any good for putting on your CV, or would it be seen as too easy a thing to accomplish?

Can you use it as a platform to advertise any sites you post content on?

Is it better exposure than posting on blogs and such?

>Is it better exposure than posting on blogs and such?
I'd imagine you'd want to do both. Being one of however many thousands of people who sell books on Amazon isn't good exposure in itself.

>Are they any good for putting on your CV, or would it be seen as too easy a thing to accomplish?
I'd say you could mention it under hobbies (unless it's dinosaur porn, of course). Unless you actually manage to make money doing it, which is a hard thing to accomplish.

>Can you use it as a platform to advertise any sites you post content on?
Pass. Don't see why not, but then like I said if you don't market the stories well you're hardly likely to get many visitors.

Here's a self-publishing success story. The writer himself appears in the comments and gives handy suggestions (although he's selling some kind of marketing course, of course):

Looking on Amazon his books are feckin' awful, but then I guess that's beside the point.

I do. I haven't had anything you could really call success with it due to only figuring certain things out as I went along and a general lack of money for ads, but doing things like duping Oprah book club readers to buy your weird, somewhat offensive self-published fiction through advertising is always fun even if there isn't any money in it.

That's just how the chips might fall with Amazon's internal advertising system. You can choose specific books you want your ads to appear with and I got a few sales from readers of that Underground Railroad book Oprah was pimping back in the summer. I thought it'd be funny because they were both vaguely related to "railroads", though my book's first chapter after the prologue is basically a conversation between a racist cop and his partner about how to best screw with public opinion over the case they're on because one of them is paranoid about it being turned into a media circus which would be used to get him and his partner fired (this was written when the black lives matter stuff was really just picking up steam and it seemed like there was some police-related incident every couple of weeks) so I don't think they understood what was being sold to them.

Though given the lack of reviews, I highly doubt most of the people who bought it have actually read it. And more than one reviewer comments about not being able to get past the halfway point.

Isn't Wattpad a better choice?
>>

No. Avoid that place like the plague if you have any serious interest in writing.

O-ok.

So I've got a 45k word novel (novella, or whatever, fuck off, don't correct me)

I'm about to finish editing, I have a brother who reads as well, I'll give it to him to read and help edit. Should have it finished completely in 2 weeks

What do I do with it?
>>
>>8633903

Put on wattpad.
>>
>>8633903
Post it here.
No, really, give us a copy, I'm curious.

>>
>>8633931
Hahahahah, I thought you could just put the thing on mediafire and drop a link.
Nah, thanks, by the time you send it to my e-mail I would've forgotten about it. Thanks, though.
