Was about to read this when I read it was the second in a trilogy. Is it necessary to read the Cloven Viscount before this book or is the trilogy only thematically linked?
only thematically linked, and barely at that
it's fine to read them separately

Thank you, also do you think The Baron in the Tree is a good starting place for Calvino? I considered starting with Invisible Cities but this one seemed easier to digest.

Read if on a winters night a traveller, it is the most fun I've ever had with a book for sure.

Baron in the Trees is one of the most "normal" novels by Calvino. I really enjoyed it, it is very magical in a sense, like a faerie tale. Also it's basically a standalone book and not really connected to the others in a meaningful way.

Just keep in mind it's not representative of every other book of Calvino's (none of them really is)
