Has there ever been a literary analysis of "greentext"?

There's something distinct about greentext, it's a shift in narrative style that I can't quite put my finger on. And there often seems to be a certain sarcasm behind it. It's also a lot easier to read for some reason.

Some things can't really be conveyed except through greentext, but it's not simply quoting, it's something entirely new. There's a coherent logic behind it, is it just a catch all device for any indirect speech?

Its context sensitive, but is most often used to mimic the voice of someone quoting in a mocking voice.

"Some things can't really be conveyed except through greentext" he mimicked sarcastically.

I think it's just sentence fragments and the only reason why it's acceptable is because of the setup and medium of 4chan.
I've read some great greentext stories, most of them rely on implications, like microfiction. It's similar to stream of consciousness writing isn't it? More swift.

OP you should write a book that incorporates greentext.

There's also greentext storytelling, which is another use.

I think greentext can be described as "questionable quotes". It's not just doubting their truth, but (as we see on /lit/) doubting their source.

My best equivalent would be that it's an aside by an unknown and unseen narrator (and that's even when accounting for name/tripfags). ">tfw" and ">mfw" fit that mold perfectly, usually being comments on the topic for a poster who can then either add in their own 2 cents or is simply silent as the narrator exposes their true feeling.

In that sense, the narrator (or greentext) comments in place of the poster.

A greentext story works because we're no longer in a dialogue with the poster. Rather, we're in a story that (usually) features the poster as a character.

Weirdly, even in first person, the narrator is still dubious. I suppose that lends more credit to how, at their height, greentexts were so often fake stories with "Gotcha!" endings.

I read these two posts within 5 seconds of each other but they felt like completely different meanings. I'm actually amazed right now.
