Exhaustingly earnest and somber, never wrote anything as good as Peregrine Pickle

Richardson, Smollett and Fielding are all trash. Goethe and Sterne are actually good, haven't read anyone else.

Why is Fielding trash?

I wouldn't think so but he's wildly enjoyable. He paints such wonderful pictures of england at the time, I'm going through humphry clinker right now.
From what i know of him he was pretty extreme and like a wild boy of the /lit/ world who was always on the outside.
Daniel Defoe is quite good too though, anyone who gets put in stocks and recites poetry while having flowers thrown his way (possibly) is cool.
18th century writers in england are very overlooked.
