what contemporary finnish literature would you recommend, /lit/?
I personally know Arto Paasillinna and Johana Sinisalo. What more?
also do you still have swedish-language literature?
BURDO BORDO, hello
Sofia Oksanen, Kjell Westö, Monika Fagerholm, Henry Parland
All boring in my opinion
Kaj-Korkea Aho is ok I guess, his first book is the best amongst his works
I'm also from a fenno-swede community so I really don't know anything about Finnish authors, any fellow Finns that care to give me tips on good/wortwhile Finnish novels?
Asko Sahlberg
If it doesn't have to be contemporary, Alastalon Salissa by Volter Kilpi is the In Search of Lost Time and Ulysses of Finland.

Do you know if there is a translation into either english or swedish? And do you think that translations of his work would still make sense to read?
Emma Juslin is a little known Fenno-swedish author, dunno if her work is available in languages other than Swedish and Finnish

Kiitoksia!
How come Scandinavian writers get published so young?
Every author in this thread was published before their 27th birthday.

Small countries -> not as many people who want to be authors.

Probably this, also a lot of these authors have been involved in so called culture circles from a very young age
Hi fingolians, where do I start with your mythology? There's an important book called kavalava or something like that, am I right? På forhånd tak
Mika Waltari and F.E Sillanpää are ok.

Kalevala, yes. It does exist in translated form afaik, but you'll probably have to order it online
>>8613294
There are also several books about the sapmi mythology, I'll let you do the research however

Kalevala was Tolkien's favorite book.

Which translation?

A danish one by Hilkka and Bent Sondergård. From 1994.
Read Waltari. Ingore everything else, unless you want to read about poor people being poor and mistreated.
