she basically rights mysteries and horror for more intelligent normies. Corn Maiden collection was good, and her gothic series sounds interesting. I Lock My Door Upon Myself literally had a magical negro roll into town and mount the local wild-child

Given the possible hint the Academy dropped on its Facebook page, a quote about "the poet's voice," from Faulkner's Nobel speech, maybe the winner's a poet. So maybe Adonis has got it.

they already awarded it to a British genre fiction writer, why not a Japanese one?
honestly, they should give it to Pynchon, even if he hasn't published in a while. it doesn't matter.

Pynchon doesn't need a Nobel. It is as much a recognition of skill as it is of obscurity, which isn't necessarily bad. With or without one, he will still be remembered as one of the greatest Western writers in modern history.

He's pretty goddamn cynical. And while his life-style politics may have reflected a desire for broad social reform, he seemed to be to me much more of the "drop-out" of society type. Anyway he is a wealthy Manhattinite now, and obviously has/had enough perspective to know mankind doesn't change, only the circumstances of its misery do.
>>8607323
After loosely associating with the beats and getting heavily into hippie counterculture, he must've just realized that everyone's fucked either way because these well-intentioned subversive movements always fail. So he probably just enjoys what's left of his life for what it is instead of getting worked up over the morass of shit civilization is.
Askildsen will get it. Surely.

Her Twitter is the most Jewish thing I've ever seen. She retweets a quote from George Soros for Christ's sake.
If an American wins it, it'll be Delillo. His odds are really good right now. She's put out too much substandard stuff, and the academy seems to have decided to give Roth a pass.
