Both are good. Just don't read Pope if you want to read Homer. Read Pope if you want to read Pope.
>>8604298
Requesting charts for Wallace, Nabokov, Orwell, or Dostoevsky.
>>8604307
Blue is far better because it includes the Oresteia.
>>8604963
Yes please DFW chart.
>>8604998
>not posting the newest version
>>8604307
The fact that blue recommends the Pope translations makes me skeptical any of the rest of their advice is good.
>>8605014
Not really big enough of a sample size to make that one very meaningful.
>>8605312
? The 2014 version polled less people than the 2015
I need some chart with gud books from this century.

>>8604995
Does someone have the numbered charts used for 'rolling'? Thanks.
>>8605312
Are you dumb? The number of people polled is in both images. The 2015 poll had almost three times as many responses as the 2014 poll.

Is it good? It sounds interesting.

REE REE REE REEad the disclaimer at the top you twat
>>8606578
It's an enjoyable feeling when it works but it's not something that would keep me up at night.
>>8606734
At best they give me a feeling of excitement at the suggestion of the mysterious or unknown but not anxious or creeped out, no. Something that isn't really horror would be better for that; The Story of The Eye, Dhalgren or My Idea of Fun. Anything that showcases the perversion of real people and the depths they might sink to is far scarier than silly ghosts, vampires, inter-dimensional monsters or animated puppets.
>>8606321
Honestly godtier. He's the only one I know of that can make spirals scary. (A lot of it is absurd.)

>>8606116
They have nothing to do with Burke, Hayek, Aristotle and Aquinas, true, but "right wing" is a huge umbrella term that includes systems which are different between each other as much as Marxism is to st. Augustine.

didn't know King in Yellow predated Great God Pan. I always had a vague idea of when both came out, and knew they couldn't be more than a decade apart, but I always thought the king came afterwards.
How's that 2016 creepypasta shit? Looks meme tier from the cover. Asking unironically. Creepypasta is a guilty pleasure for reading on the subway.

Hamilton is better. March's Penguin Book of Classical Myths is more comprehensive than both. All will do the job if you're starting with the Greeks though.
>>8607565
>game of thrones

>>8607598
The guy who made this admitted it was a joke. Why would anyone start reading Hemingway with his most boring and tedius albeit worthy read. Everyone starting Hemingway needs to start on The old man and the sea or his short stories. The sun also rises should be near the end with for whom the bell tolls.
>>8605435
>Classic Horror
>no german "Schauergeschichten"
Why do people pretend to create insightful charts, when they really just list they books they've read themself from a certain category/genre/movement?
>>8606002
>still no german stories
u are a joke
>>8616178
>when they really just list they books they've read themself from a certain category/genre/movement?
How could anyone do otherwise? Do you suggest listing books that haven't been read?
>>8616186
An objective knowledge of the topic of the chart would help. It's a bit silly to make a chart on horror literature and then leave out many novels/novellas and short stories that played a decisive role in the emergence of the genre, no?
>>8608004
Vargas Llosa is ok, but most of his books on that list are awful.
I would only include Conversación en la Catedral, La guerra del Fin del Mundo and the short novel Los Cachorros.
Isabel Allende shouldnt be there at all.
That list has too many books that arent very good at all.
>>8607576
Theme?
>>8616449

>>8616380
The thing that triggers me is that the list is full of mediocre Vargas Llosa filler, while it doesn't even have any Alejo Carpentier or Maria Luisa Bombal. Honestly, why do they put more than one book per author?
Also, the poetry 'section' is a fucking travesty
>picking any Neruda book other than Canto General
>no Nicanor Parra
>>8607685
I'd actually give the Oxford Classics Melville translation of Ovid a small edge over Mandelbaum, because it comes with notes.
>>8607651
This is so shitty. Someone should really make a guide explaining different types of poetry along with 2 or 3 examples. This "chart" is just some fuckface's opinion
>>8615284
Fuck Ed Sheeran. Sia sucks. But leave pre-last album Grimes alone.
>>8616513
More than one book per author is absolutely fine.
Both 2666 and Los Detectives Salvajes should be in the list, the same goes for Ficciones and El Aleph.
The list is bad because of its choices.

If you just want to get a broad overview of the western canon + the 20th century /lit/ memebooks + a few of your own choices it's easily doable within 5 years or so. Sure it's impossible to read every good book ever written but it's actually relatively easy to run out of truly great books to read if you've been a serious reader for more than 10 years.
