Fuck yes. The prose is just marvellous. Emma is a great character. I really identify with her, as did Flaubert himself.

I think Emma fits pretty well with many people born in the last decades. Being exposed by the media to a new world, and convinced that it is better, people can go very far to satisfy needs that are given in order to make their own world more similar to the ones they see on tv.
It's a fantastic book, I had to take a small break from reading after finishing it. That and Salammbo are my favorite works by Flaubert.
I feel bad for french authors, all are doomed to be famous for 1 book or work which for some reason outshines all the others on an international level.
Really you could say the same about all authors but i feel french get this hard in the arse since they have so many authors and pieces to choose from.
