Although Spanish is my mother tongue and I consider it a very beautiful lanuage, I think Italian is more beautifully sounding. Japanese is also very beautiful, in sound, in writing, and in meaning.

Huh. The worst possible phonetic sensibility.

But of course phonetics are not the only factor. I know Spanish fairly well at this point, and while I think its phonetics are far poorer than German's and Latin's (the other two languages I'm learning), but I appreciate its straightforwardness and ease of use. I also think it an excellent language for comedy, because it is always threatening to become hysterical.

But yeah, phonetically speaking I really like German, Russian, Latin (either Classical or traditional English pronunciation, however the academicians may dislike it), Italian, Sanskrit (or at least the reconstructions I've heard), Hebrew, and Hungarian. Languages whose sounds I distinctly dislike are French (in this I guess I'm a contrarian; it just strikes me as a very lazy language, and somewhat monotonous because it has neither pitch nor accent), most living Germanic languages other than German (this would probably include English were I in a position to judge it), and Irish, which is unfortunate because, like Spanish, its literature is rich and wonderful though its phonetics are poor. It is has the opposite of Spanish's problem: its phonetic inventory is simply too large, and it sounds discombobulated and slurred, while Spanish is a little too precise and staccato. Italian, I think, strikes a happy medium between the phonologies of Spanish and French, though it's of course closer in sound to Spanish.

But yeah, like this guy said, English, while perhaps a phonetically subpar language, is excellent in the shades of meaning it allows. I'd like you to elaborate on what you mean by "Spanish for English as a Romance language," though. Do you mean just because it's relatively simple, grammatically?

As I said, range. No other Romance language has a comparable social position; no other Romance language has comparable nuance and weight to every phrase (greater beauty, perhaps, and certainly greater respectability with respect to Western history, but never greater nuance).
>>
>>8593124
>no other Romance language has comparable nuance and weight to every phrase
But French and, I'm assuming, Italian have much more nuance than Spanish. Hell, I'm pretty sure nuance is a French derived word, and if there's a culture that appreciates it it's certainly the French.

I've heard Punjabi is beautiful and fairly easy to learn as well. Anyone know anything about that?

So, your mother tongue and it's close relatives? Way to expand your sphere, kid.

BORING!

>asian languages are garbage

Actually, Cantonese and Japanese are gems with a spoken and written history far longer than the romance languages you've written down.

Get into history you pseud.

Depending on the dialect (which are as different as romance languages, by the way), you mean.
