I have just bought The Essential Russell Kirk.
Who are some other good contemporary conservative authors to read? I don't mind far-right/white nationalist recommendations either
Roger Scruton, Pat Buchanan. Depends where the line of contemporary ends for you, since conservatives don't churn out books.
Does Spengler's "The Decline of the West" (published 1913) count as contemporary? If so, that.
Carl Schmitt
Alan de Benoist
Kenneth Minnogue
Christopher Lasch
James Kalb
Paul Gottfried

Is Pat Buchanan any good? I appreciate the paleocon perspective, but is Buchanan is schlocky or actually insightful?

Nice dichotomy, faggot.

MacIntyre is the best conservative philosopher and ethicists in general of the 20th century. His accounts on truth, virtue, rationality and tradition are incredibly insightful, even if he's often very hard to read.

Misinterpreting Spengler seems to be the official sport of the far-right, so OP needs to be careful if he goes that route.
