My nigga. Same here, I honestly don't know why/how people read with drinks or while drunk.

When I'm reading or experiencing something for the first time I want to be as baseline as possible so there isn't any other medium/inhibitor distorting what is trying to be conveyed.

Now, re-reading chapters or discussing /lit/? Hell yea I wanna be drunk.

I don't know if that makes me autistic or what but I can't do it.

I get incredibly anxious when reading at home. I'm more comfortable when outside.

To solve this problem, I have regulated my shits to once a day and I take a shower right after.

Reading outside on a nice bench is good. In cold/wet weather I stay inside and read on my couch, but this isn't as pleasurable.

but pleasure is over rated. Hygiene is more important. I would never lend you a book.

Holy shit, I used to have this really romanticized idea about reading while drinking whiskey.

Tried it one night. Decided to read Anna Karenina while sipping Crown and had to stop because the words started jumbling together and I ended up re-reading entire paragraphs because I just couldn't get it.

To answer the OP though, I like to read in coffee shops. The noise doesn't bother my reading; I can relax a bit before getting back to what I need to do; and, sometimes you meet some cool people who read cool books and you can find a new, great author.

reading while drinking is possible you just have to

1) not drink too much
2) have a tolerance

it's actually much easier to read with a 1-3 beer buzz than stone cold sober because you're less distracted, and less apt to anxiously re-read paragraphs if you think you missed a minor detail
