Is straight history or historical fiction? I read Ross King's book on Machiavelli a few months ago and Florence alone had enough shit going on in the early 16th century to fill a few books. Really interesting time.
>>8543340
Straight history seen from the perspective of a made up character.
10/10 in historical research
All the battles, places, the way the ordonary life is portrayed, all the characters (except for the hypothetical main character) , everything is 100% accurate.
I read it on my vacations in Rome and I could picture the battles as I visited the places described in the book in painstaking detail. An awesome reading experience.
Totally recommended if you are interested in the historical period.

>One day this Frank went home and found a man with his wife in the same bed. He asked him, "What could have made you enter into my wife's room?" The man replied, "I was tired, so I went in to rest." "But how," asked he, "didst thou get into my bed?" The other replied, "I found a bed that was spread, so I slept in it." "But," said be, "my wife was sleeping together with you!" The other replied, "Well, the bed is hers. How could I therefore have prevented her from using her own bed?"
"By the truth of my religion," said the husband, "if thou shouldst do it again, thou and I would have a quarrel." Such was for the Frank the entire expression of his disapproval and the limit of his jealousy. . . .

Did YOU KNOW that Cormac orignally wrote that book as a screenplay, but it was rejected by Hollyood?
Then Coens adapted it and won an Oscar for the screenplay. Cormac was at the cermony and they walked up to him and said, "Yeah, so we know this is all yours but we're keeping it anyway."

Siddy also had the blue pill at one point, so it's still salvageable

Its actually not boring it all, its kind of hilarious. Not nearly as poetic or deep as the Iliad or Odyssey of course but it has similar tropes of the epic style.
Its kind of a novelty, as a way of looking back at history and how values changed. All i remember is a moment when the protagonist challenges a big baddie to a duel. The one rule is that each throws a spear at the other but they cannot move, only jump.
The first guy throws his spear and the other dodges it with a jump, he then proceeds to throws his spear with such huge arc that it falls directly on his opponent thus being impossible to dodge.
Pretty funny shit imo
