Why couldn't they just transfer their minds to Great Race newborns when they were dying?

They foresaw their destruction by the Flying Polyps. There would be no newborns.
So they transferred their minds into the future where there weren't any Polyps. And inhabited the bodies of beetle people, the dominate species on earth after humans.
This also means they left the beetle people minds to dye in their bodies.

I know, but the mass migration would happen in the distant future. When a certain individual was about to die, they would transfer his mind to someone else in a distant place. Wouldn't it be more practical to transfer the dying one's mind to a newborn of their race instead of wasting his knowledge in a far away place?
we talking bout dis? http://www.yog-sothoth.com/wiki/index.php/Bad_Moon_Rising
that scenario blew my mind

I don't think their race has newborns. Their original Elder Race bodies are in the past. Meaning their numbers are limited. They migrated into new bodies during Earth Cretaceous era, then again to escape the polyps in a post-human world.
Any children they have in their new bodies would become host to some past Elder Race mind. I'm assuming.
I mean, how else would it work? If they were in human bodies - they would have human children with human minds. I don't see why it would develop an Elder Race mind of it's own.
