Why is this so awesome?
>>8518774
Because Tolkien senior had less to do with it
>>8518774
Nostalgia + you were less critical of what you read when you were a kid.
>>8518774
Because you liked it.
I love Tolkien in general but this is definitely my favorite book of his. Much better than the Rings books if you ask me, though I doubt it will lend itself as well to a film version.

It all depends on what writers and directors you put to it. These would make great films.
Apparently so would the Hobbit, someday.
I tried to read this as a teenager and it was impossible. There was no story. It was just a bunch of random shit.

It has stories. It was simply unconventional in delivery. Never meant to be published anyway. Maybe you have more patience for it now.

I'm a different anon who had the same issue. Last time I tried to read it, I was 19. I'm 27 now and about to finish Paradise Lost. I'll give it a try after.
Honestly, one of my favorite things as I get older is rereading stuff from my late adolescence and comparing my mature perspective with how I used to feel.
I masturbate this quite often.

I just don't get the love. Maybe i need to re read it now that im not 13 but i just never got the hype for the Silmarillion
>>8518774
it's not and you're a faggot

agreed. i remember trying to read catch 22 when i was 16 and being bored out of my fucking mind. now im 19 and its my favorite book.

I dunno what it is with me, but I love the pre-rings stuff. I love The Silmarillion and the Unfinished Tales and such, I love The Hobbit too, but I can't be bothered with reading the core trilogy...
Maybe it's because I saw the movies before I ever got my hands on the rings books..
Nothing kills my interest in reading a book like seeing a film adaptation of it first, thank god I read Fear & Loathing and One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest before I saw the movies.
The Fear & Loathing movie was particularly shitty as far as I was concerned. Johnny Depp is NOT funny.

The movies are extremely different than the books. I was in the same situation as you regarding LoTR in regards to seeing the movies first. The movies cut out a good chunk of the story and/or just make up new material. I would recommend actually reading it. The world and story in its entirety has so much more depth in the books that Jackson just glosses over.
why is this a meme
I don't like it
