Read it purely for enjoyment. The humor still translates very well. Plus if nothing else it's a highly influential piece.

Its a neverending sequence of retarded shit happening but its ok.
It's one of the best works of comedy and satire in all of literature.
Now, if you take it in relation to the spanish literature movement, it's the most important piece of literature, it perfectly encompasses the acid, sometimes even cruel comedy style and cynical view of the world of the spanish speaking world. It's pretty much a mix of dostoyevsky and kafka if they knew how to actually make you laugh.
