What is your local library like?

It smells funny. The scent is a mix of homeless people and the disinfectant they use on the books. On the other hand, it is the city's main branch so the selection is pretty good.

It's nice. They have more Harold Bloom commentary books than the actual works of literature Bloom is commenting on. Interlibrary loan comes in handy.

Really shit. Bunch of paperback pleb tier "books" and nothing else. Oh, and a few computers which chavs use when.

Closest one is part of an elementary school. My university has a library, although a lot of it is obviously educational and non-fiction. My closest somewhat useful libraries are rather small. Most books are in Dutch and Dutch doesn't have a lot of worthwhile literature if you ask me (and fuck translations). Pretty much useless around the board.

I live in the suburbs so it's all just large-print Ken Follett books and factory workers using the computers.

It's used more as a refuge for the unemployed and/or homeless to wile away the hours.
Half the books are children's books for the nursery next door and the other half are trash fiction for the elderly book club. The book of the week always seems to be something by Jeffrey Archer.

Last time I went in there I saw a man sitting at a computer who kept looking around sheepishly every few minutes. Turned out he had some porn running on another tab while he looked at job sites.

There's a small one a few hundred meters away from me. Two rooms of kid's lit, one of non fiction and one of adult fiction. The selection is pretty nice. I'm gonna burrow Inherent Vice in English once I've finished what I'm reading know.

Are there multiple branches for your library system? You might be able to request titles from other libraries in the area, so you'd get more of a variety. I don't know if all libraries offer this though.

I can do this through my university, seeing how they are connected to other universities. It's the same kind of books, non-fiction, so there's not much of a point in that regard. It's nice for research though. Don't know if the other libraries do this, I'll need to check soon.
