So I know this isn't the "end-all" Western Canon list, and that Bloom himself would later go on to disavow it, but how does the list stand for you personally? What books/authors do you feel are really missing? Ones you feel just don't belong there?

the complete list:

No.

He never disavowed it: what are you talking about?

>only three works in Sanskrit
>Egyptian book of the dead

Something is wrong with that nigger
>>
>>8471161
Actually he only includes two Sanskrit works, and the page literally explains why he includes them specifically. He probably includes Gilgamesh and the Book of the Dead because they're considered the earliest surviving works of literature

>influence on western canon
What constitutes an influence anyway? What is the purpose of this whole thing ?
>>
>stupid fucking pseuds of /lit/ revise the canon
this is the surest way to bring about the death of literature
>>
>>8471199
>What constitutes an influence anyway?
Something that leaves behind a clear and observable mark on the progression of ideas historicaly
>What is the purpose of this whole thing ?
to truly understand the differences between the stages and evolutions of a certain medium and thus get a bigger picture of why things are the way they are and what's the implications that follow.

Bloom is really great as a guide for English literature, also for ancient literature since most of that are set in stone since forever, but when it comes to other languages/countries you should look for another critics opinions, his representation of Latin America, African literature and for Portugal and slav countries.

>who cares about banana land literature?

Anyone who really loves literature and want to see what the world has to offer, Brazil for example, he only mentions Drummond, ignoring GuimarĂ£es Rosa which is, arguably, one of the best writters from the last century and Machado de Assis, even tho he talks about Assis in another book, but still. The main point is, you can't expect a really fair list from just one guy
