Not really, The Tunnel by Gass played around with format and what a novel can consist of (and im sure more examples can be brought up) Danijewski is just stretching that concept. I really enjoyed House of Leaves and i do believe it has a place with great novels, but it wasnt exactly innovating or groundbreaking ( po-mo hypertextual story within a story is it real is it fake?...etc ). Im in the middle of the Familiar v1 and its entertaining, even compelling at times, but so far its mostly flair.
