Where do I start/go with Faulkner and Steinbeck?
I haven't read anything of Faulkner. For Steinbeck, I've read The Grapes of Wrath, and I really enjoyed the prose, but I didn't sympathize with the farmers. So perhaps anything by Steinbeck that isn't about his views on this subject?
Steinbeck- Cannery Row
Faulkner- As I Lay Dying
Both nice entry points for their brevity

The Chrysanthemums is my favorite Steinbeck work. Its really good, and its a short story, so you can further gauge your interest there.

Of Mice and Men is good, but i still prefer The Chrysanthemums.
All I've read of Steinbeck is Tortilla Flat. I enjoyed it, it was pretty funny.
