yet Sam Delany is by all accounts a superior writer and isn't talked about as much
I like Delany..but no

It's less a racial thing and more a genreshit thing. Yes, Dhalgren has a reputation for being /lit/, but other than that he just wrote scifi and that thing about the pedophile.
>>8456429
im talking in terms of sheer writing ability
DFW is not on his level
>>8456424
Dhalgren was interesting but his other stuff (notably Hogg) is fucking bollocks
Infinite Jest isn't the best but it's a readable and pretty genuinely enjoyable/poignant novel, but DFW's other stuff besides Pale King is bad too
So they about equal up
>>8456424
I agree OP: Dhalgren > the Jest
>>8456435
Dhalgren<<<Gravity's Rainbow
>>8456440
and therefore GR >>>> the Jest
>>8456445
What is the more challenging book out of Jest, Dhalgren or Gravity's Rainbow
>>8456446
havn't read Infinite Jest
but Dhalgren isn't really that hard, its just kind of weird
Gravity's Rainbow is up their with Ulysses in sheer incomprehensibility
>>8456431
Brief Interviews with Hideous Men was better than anything Delaney ever wrote.

ehhh..Delany isn't really mentioned here on Lit that much, he is no where near as mentioned as much as DFW
