How am I supposed to flip these pages without losing my mind?
>not flipping pages from the corner
What kind of ass-backwards culture are you from, lad?

Thats why its always good to have a kindle. If theres a book that comes in an absolutely shite edition its better to have it digitally.

>the corners aren't completely fucked
did you look at this nonsense?
>>8455360
what the fuck happened with this book?
>>8455384
its brand new
>>8455387
why would they do that?
its not practical, its not pretty, wth
it has something to do with the plot?
>>8455390
I think they do that to books to give the image of ruggedness, as if its contents within are life-changing thoughts like the books of early times
>>8455390
maybe this has something to do with it...
I like it
my edition of siddhartha has it and i had no problem flipping pages
maybe you're just autistic

Penguin isn't the only company that does the rugged-looking page thing
it means it was probably handbound ass hat
Deckle edge.
Purely aesthetic, yeah the deluxe edition is part of it. They want to make it seem fancier. Paper's probably higher quality too. I think it's pointless too, but also have never had an issue turning the pages because of it.
So this feature is called 'deckling' and is actually a vestigial side effect from old printing processes

Also books would come uncut and you had to separate the pages yourself. I've seen Anon claim this is behind the comments in the Great Gatsby of him having seemingly uncut books, implying they're unread and therefore ornamental.

Yeah its got a good quality to it, but the way I read it winds up flopping a chapter over every time I hit the right groove in the pages.
