Bloom's book on poetry is pretty decent - I think I picked up a copy used for like $1 too. It's called "The Best Poems of the English Language."

>essential poetry
>no Neruda
>no Huidobro
Good Lord, that's a shit chart
I'm no expert
Tennyson: loved the Middle Ages
Whitman: hippie nature
Byron: heroic romance and heartbreak
Poe: macabre and dark
Oscar Wilde: decadence, incredible vivid, almost too much
Browning: loved the Scottish countryside
Kipling: loved the British Empire
Bysshe Shelly: Mysticism with subtle meaning, very difficult to understand at times

>Neruda, 2pac and Bob Dylan are here

>Langston hughes next to Coleridge
What a disgrace
>Hughes:
'I was so sick last night I
Didn't hardly know my mind.
So sick last night I
Didn't know my mind.
I drunk some bad licker that
Almost made me blind.''
>Coleridge:
Like one, that on a lonesome road
Doth walk in fear and dread,
And having once turned round walks on,
And turns no more his head;
Because he knows, a frightful fiend
Doth close behind him tread.
