I like him a lot. In some ways he's a lot dumber than Dostojevski or Tolstoy but he's a great storyteller anyway. Lots of dusty roads, old villas and unrequited loves instead of spiritual torment.
My favourite is probably Home of the Gentry.
Literally first heard him from My Boss, My Hero. An episode about first love discussed his work, First Love.
I've read a few of his short novels, Spring Torrents; First Love and another one. they were all very good.
