BEE's best by a long way, good but not great. it can seem like it's got a lot of filler, but everything is there for a reason, to immerse the reader in the mind of a psychopath. it's effective at that, which makes for a sometimes disturbing reading experience, like a poor man's Lolita.
>Excited to read it after the movie
>bought it
>started reading it
>expected passages of him detailing what people are wearing
>know that there's a point to it all
>carries on into page 100
>a hundred pages of judging people by their clothes
>he scooped a black hobo's eye out(or stabbed him im not sure) and he killed a dog
May sounds cute, but gets so tiring. I admit, I watched human centipede and enjoyed the torment, but I actually cringed hard at the description of him killing the hobo.

the gay guy and the sharpei was worse for me, because it was like "oh, this again" and he really didn't disappoint, it was that again

that's great!
why the fuck should you be enjoying torment? if you're reading about scooping a damn eye out why wouldn't you feel uncomfortable? if you get excited and cheered him on it's probably ineffective prose written by a dickhead

It gets gross. The movie is mild in the extreme. Maybe this says more about my book choices than this work in particular but the murder scenes were definitely the most harrowing of any I've ever read.

by far the most graphic descriptions I've ever seen
the part where he kills the prostitutes was one of the most disgusting things I've ever read. It's on the level of Guts by Palahniuk.
Aside from that there are some great and memorable moments, but most of the time it is a miserable experience through and through, endless descriptions of clothes, food, furniture, and music. The chapter where he describes trying to fix his relationship with his fiance is pretty good.
I would not recommend it unless you have already read the full Western Canon and a bunch of other classics. If you want a book for entertainment this is the worst possible choice.
The movie had the greatest improvement from book to movie of anything I've seen. Worth watching.
the movie was better, the book was unnecessarily repetitive

I know it's great writing, you misunderstand what I said. I enjoy torture porn because it's hilarious and I imagine the woman wronged me in some way, not so much men but I can still enjoy it if I think they are chad. But this hobo, I don't think it was because I felt sorry for him being a hobo but that bateman killed him like someone who picks up a cup. He treated it as a trivial act and not because he didn't particularly do it for pleasure but out of necessity?
Not anti violence it was just different from what I'm used to and definitely not just torture porn.

>bateman killed him like someone who picks up a cup. He treated it as a trivial act
yeah, because he's a psychopath. it's right there in the title.

I like it, and am actually going through it again now for reasons. It's cool that I'm still picking up on little things, like single sentences that are linked together chapters apart.

thats the point u dumbie
I can confirm its immersive and vivid.
Would recommend.

Guts didn't affect me at all, but I skip the murders when re-reading American Psycho

have you read the whole book?
