It's not just that it was crappy YA, it's that the whole way through I was painfully aware (read it a few years ago when it first came out) that this was a soulless attempt to get a movie deal. The old photos thing, the angsty Mary Sue protagonist boy, all of it. Just looking for a movie and sequel, not a heart or shit given about art anywhere. The plot, deus ex machina, bad dialogue, everything, all done with a feature Disney film in mind. I finished it and gave it away.
