Why is it called post-modern if it was written in the past?
Because it pretends to be the future
a better question is why its still called Modernism
Because Cervantes just based like that

Any time period has its own modernity. Today, we describe as modern the use of social media and cell phones, globalization, and the general plebianizing of culture. but we only call it Modernism when there is a self-conscious attempt to Live Now, to "make it new," as Pound famously decreed. We call it post-modernism, then, when this urge to make it new has been "transcended" in some dialectical way that preserves the original strangeness of the injunction. Thus where modernism makes it new by sculpting human beings as though there were merely the form which motion takes (futurism, cubism, etc), postmodernism makes it new by self-reflexively investigating the relatively arbitrary distinctions made between form and motion, by showing how, if it were possible for modernism to make a human being the form of motion, then it might well be that all form is motion, and all motion, form, and that it very quickly to decide where one ends and the other begins without simply deferring to the outer limits of the other one you're stuck with.
