Halfway through A Dance With Dragons, and I'm getting really sick of this series. Some aspects of it are so good, but others ruin it for me.
Firstly, Martin exaggerates everything. The Wall can't be 300ft, it has to be 700ft. It can't be frosty, it has to be "so cold it drives men mad" with waist high snow. Even though it's still only autumn.
Secondly, it's over sexualized. The lesbian sex scene with Cersei was like something from a fanfic. It just makes Martin seem like a horny creep.
Thirdly, his latest books would be greatly improved by removing a quarter of the content. No wonder he writes so fucking slowly when he keeps throwing in all this shit which does nothing to advance the plot.

It is fantasy, senpai. On one hand, The wall being gigantic is not a big deal. The story has dragons, wood elves, ice zombies, resurrection, etc. On the other hand, having deep snow when it is only autumn is quite the rule for martin, he is obsessed with long seasons spanning years where winter is super cold so a cold end-of-autumn is logical.
