Will this genuinely improve my social skills or will it make even more socially autistic? Im not by any stretch at r9k leves of social autism but I would like to be better at communicating with people.

The only way to rapidly improve communication skills is to work with a coach and a practice group like Toastmasters.

the maxim of the book is you have to read it and apply what you learn. the book is a way to coach yourself on how you should communicate with people.
tl;dr ofc not you have to do that yourself
>>
Had to read it for uni, actually a great general guide but its just that. Also the general maxim is "Dont be a dick" and "Go suck other people's dicks", which obviously only happens when you go out and try.

Communications is a skill like any other, practice practice practice

It's a good book, but should be read more as a business book rather than a self-help guide.

Charisma on Command has been more helpful for me personally in my attempts to have more friends and be "good" around people.

I think it improved my social skills no end, just by making me realise I never used to smile at people, use their name, or direct the conversation towards the other person's life or interests.

I'd recommend it to anyone.
