Why does /lit/ hate this so much?
I'm just starting it, I know that the common criticism is,
>YA shit
Just because it's set at that age range does it really mean it's meant for that audience? Are there good qualities about the novel, what do you like or dislike and why?
it's taught in high schools so it must be bad

Get it through your skull that /lit/ is not one person. I, for example, really liked the book. It was like reading about myself when I was about the same age as Holden. There are many good qualities about the book. It's worth reading.

People don't understand that it's a classic unreliable narrator/anti-hero in the tradition of books like Notes from the Underground. They "don't like" Holden and assume that the book isn't for them.
has anyone mentioned that Holden raped his sister?

has anyone mentioned that I raped your sister?
>inb4 I don't have a sister
not anymore

Catcher in the Rye basically began and ended YA in modern American tradition. If anyone here is hating on it, then it's only a couple memesters and aspiring John Greens here and there.
Catcher is amazing. It's only apergs who "ooommmmgggg holden is sooooooooo annoying! What a SPOILED brat!!!!!"
It's probably my favorite book.

woah what the fuck!!!!!!
>>8410579
can we stop this meme please?
>>8410328
It's just parochial as fuck. There's nothing to talk about.

How is Salinger a phony?
What? Nobody on /lit/ hates Catcher; don't fall for memes. It a fantastic novel, and anyone who says shit like "ugh Holden is just a spoiled brat this book SUCKS" is retarded and should be ignored.
