Didn't Tom Clancy or similar military writers predict how the world (or at least America) would be in some books from a militaristic point of view? I remember being told this but wouldn't really touch the books myself. Someone that military minded would seem neurotic enough to analyse everything to such detail that they could theoretically predict how wargames would pan out.
