Taking into account the book's emphasis on ancestors and decedents, it's the only scenario that further promulgates the chronic toxic family themes to the readers while at the same time giving due diligence to the actual cast of the book and not Somefuck Randy catcalling Caddy on the periphery.

Nah, it is made explicit in Quentin's part that his desire for Caddy is only a manifestation of his desire for purity, he even tells his father he fucked her but everybody nows he's too beta to even try. Basically it's this very weird symbiotic relation between them but if they had fucked the whole book wouldn't have made sense.
