Is it worth it?

Is the most respected novel of the twentieth century worth it? I don't know you tell me.
>>8398349
It's worth it in french
>>8398366
Most would say no.
more respected than Ulysses?
DUDE COOKIES LMAO

Read Swann's Way at least. I've only gotten through 3, but I still think that Proust probably has the most beautiful prose I've ever read.
>>8398349
I don't remember.
>>8398349
I never read it because it just looks too long and probably doesn't translate well in English. Why is it so long though?
>tfw can't read French
Is it worth learning French just for Proust?
>>8398708
Definitely. ISOLT is the greatest work of literature written in the 20th century, and if you're going to read thousands of pages of Proust you might as well do it in French.
>>8398349
What's your opinion of the translations in English?
>>8398703
It's not long once you've finished it, and it translates well enough. Proust declared an affinity for American and English authors; he was especially fond of Ruskin.
idk man, nobody on this board has gone past "swann's way"
