Making this thread because I'm wondering about a Russian book I saw talked about on here before. /lit/'s favorite character was a guy who decided he'd kill himself to die a martyr to prove God isn't necessary or some shit. Anyone know which book this was? 19th century, probably.
(Google gives me nothing)

Thinking of writing a main character who is good but also insane(not the violent type) because of what he has to deal with on a daily basis. Would the readers be turn of on such a character?

No, I don't think so. Though consider how he's insane. I'd recommend studying psychological diagnoses and such for authenticity. Good luck man
