Must be used in certain condition, not always. It is way to fucking overated and many snooby teenagers think that everything must he minimalistic. Minimalist website. Minimalist clothes. Minimalist decoration. Minimalist movie. Minimalist fucking dog. I fucking hate these people. Minimalism doesn't make it look good

Some of Hemmingway's short stories could be read as minimalist, but I think Beckett is a clearer example. When his styled changed after his early novels and stories (Kicks, Dreams, Murphy, Watt) in his move away from Joycean language, which also coincided with his move away from English, he became increasingly minimalist. Look at his trilogy novels, or Godot/Endgame, then to his latest works. Less and less is said, though you (& the fucking academy) feel sure that more and more is meant.
