Where's a good place to start with plato?
Euthyphro -> Apology -> Crito -> Phaedo
Then read Symposium, Parmenides, the Republic ... and others if you so choose.

Go fuck yourself. Just dont read plato. Hes the worst Philosopher ever who was wrong about literally everything. I hate him so much.

>Plato: Complete Works
I've been told that's not good for people who are trying to get into plato though, and works better as a reference.

read the sep article on presocratics, then the one on plato. try a couple short dialogues - apology, crito, etc. if you dig it, move on to the republic and if you want to keep going, just read the ones that touch on things you're interested in.

It is a compendium of every known work by Plato to include apocrypha. The translations are excellent and the intros top-notch.
You were given bad advice -- please explain how it can serve as a reference since it contains Plato's actual dialogues and not secondary sources, commentary ect?

I have a hard time understanding this quote.
Of course Plato would endorse "kill-or-banish"; that's clear to anyone who's read any of his political writings.

I'll reply because lol'd at pic.
Don't bother reading any of his metaphysics. Just read Republic and his political and ethical writings.

>Don't bother reading any of his metaphysics
why though? His metaphysics set the foundation for all metaphysics to follow in the western world.

The Hackett translations in general are good. This,

is an excellent start.
The Focus Philosophical Library translations are better and include better editorial material, but they're more expensive and sometimes harder to find. My professors who were specialists in ancient Greek philo preferred them, though.
The Penguin Classics translations are not terrible, but scholars usually prefer either of the above two publishers.
Avoid Jowett in general.
For the Republic, read the Bloom translation or the Grube one (revised by Reeve). Avoid the Waterfield translation in Oxford Classics (he divides the ten books of the Republic into 14 for some fucking reason) and avoid the Cornford translation (he summarizes, instead of translating, arguments).

Nothing. But it goes to show one that Plato wasnt *truly* ascended (according to him)
Banning poetry is posibly not is what is best for the Republic, but we are forced to assume that his esoteric teachings will b
