Are writers always coming up with new ideas or do they reach a point where they just rework old ones? Pynchon is like 80 I can't imagine him coming up with IV at his age. It must be from when he was younger

The important thing is not coming up with new ideas anymore, what matters most in this day and age is the fleshing out of preexistant ones along with new ways of connecting them and presenting them to other people.
