Has anyone read works by Kawabata such as Thousand Cranes or Snow Country? What did you think about them, if you had.
Kawabata is GOAT
superior to Mishima whom /lit/ memes largely because of politics/life as opposed to actually reading his books. not to say mishima isn't good.
I thought a Thousand Cranes was a bit boring but still enjoyable
Snow Country is great
I liked the universe scene at the end

Why compare them at all

I second this. Have read 'the sound of the mountain' and all pf his palm-of-the-hand stories. Can especially recommend the latter

I feel pity for how ignorant you are
Have read Snow Country, Master of Go, Thousand Cranes, Beauty and Sadness, The House of Sleeping Beauties and The Izu Dancer. He is right up there with (though below) Chekhov for me. When I was less well read on Japanese lit I thought he was GOAT. Then I read Tanizaki and Inoue and realised he has his equals in even a small country like Japan.
