- Political Theology by Schmitt
- Protestant Ethic and Spirit of Capitalism by Weber
- Dialectic of Enlightenment by Horkheimer & Adorno
- The Order of Things by Foucault
- Milestones by Qubt, although you might be put on terrorist watchlist for reading that (if you take this shit seriously, u deserve that btw)

Yeah, the last one is closer to what I was looking for: criticism of western culture from an outsider's point of view. I'd be curious to see if there are examples from non-muslim countries too.

Fanon?
guys is marcuse responsible for the end of western civilisation?
>>8351736
It's hard to imagine anything more quintessentially western than Marx, Engels, Weber, Adorno, etc.
>>8351855
Have you read Negative Dialectics/Dialectic of Enlightenment? Do you understand Adorno's view of western modernity? What about Weber and 'The Iron Cage'?
>>8351855
subtle

Well, there's elements of a critique of modernity in Gandhi's thought. I know there have been academic studies on that. Maybe take a look at the Kyoto School.

Take Weber out and I'd agree.
Plus, when you study how Adorno & Horkheimer's work was received and taken by in America, you'll realize that they are wholly western and wholly complicit.
What about the political philosopher John Gray? He is mainly critical of contemporary culture and ideals, especially the latter I suppose.
