Well, /lit/? Do you love him? Do you hate him? Is he wrong about DFW having "no discernible talent"? Is the Western Canon in danger of the School of Resentment? Discuss.
He's cool but I think maybe he's read a little too much. Like he thinks Shakespeare is literally God.
It's like... dude, chill.
I think he's right about DFW.
I don't think the canon is in danger. No real harm can come to good men or the impressions of their souls... what is loud and bad always burns itself out quickly.

The way he talks about feminism being used in the classrooms is unrealistic. No one is seriously advocating that we throw out the classics, and anyone who is is only suggesting that to be as radical as possible and to shake things up and get some fucking women into the universities.
tldr: he missed the point of feminism like any old white dude and feels threatened by equality

I agree with your assessment of his reactions to feminism, but do you think entire undergrad classes should be dedicated to Marxist, feminist, and queer readings of classic works? It doesn't make much sense to me. Why should literature be the safe haven of radical social leftists? That makes me fearful of literature's future - I mean the fact that the "readers" or "judges" of the quality of a work have such agendas.

He's wrong on any number of things but he's entirely on point with his cultural conservatism.
Giving Bloom the title "white dude", which is obviously derogatory, is the sort of crap that leads to John Milton getting removed from the curriculum in favor of whatever "inclusive" inferior bullshit.

If you said he couldn't understand feminism due to his Jewishness it'd be ridiculous and you'd be eaten alive by the very bloc that might mobilize behind that argument. The lefty blogo-tweeto-sphere only permits you to criticize his "whiteness". In fact, it serves the argument to downplay the fact he's ethnically Jewish.
