I'm going on a long trip and I was wondering is the Lord of the Rings actually worth reading? I haven't read anything storybased in years, mostly biographical stuff but LotR has always fascinated me.

Does it keep you interested the whole time?

No.
The thing about LOTR is that is fantastic, absolutely fantastic when you think about it. The world Tolkein created is the best there is.

BUT actually reading the damn thing is a chore.
