>Anyone care to make a short description of Tolkien's work?
A lover of language and myth, his legendarium is an attempt to create a home for his languages as well as a mythology for England which he felt was lacking. He placed classical themes and stories within an unusually well developed world which is both foreign and familiar to western readers. His aesthetic is unmatched, his stories are timeless, his prose is above average but not genius. Over all well worth reading.
Tolkien created an entire universe with its own detailed mythology, history and even numerous languages.
It is important not to think of Tolkien's works in the conventional way you might approach fantasy - with Tolkien the world he has created comes first, and the books are more a insight into his world than they are the main thing.
