Wanting to "get into" communist literature while poo-poohing Marx is like wanting to get into American history while poo-poohing the Federalist papers, or the Constitution. It's just ridiculous. If you want to study X, then you have to be willing to engage with Babby's first entries in X, especially if you haven't actually done so - they're usually there for a reason.

I am literally instructing you to literally read the literal Communist Manifesto as a short intro if you haven't already done so. Then read about its historical context. Otherwise, you don't actually want to do what you claim to want to do in the OP. It's also a low bar for seriousness about what you claim to want.

Maybe try the two invisible committee books after that as light and breezy modern reading, but they still require some acquaintance with leftist thought and history, Marx. crawl before walking.

It's dry, but also short and breezy, along the above lines. Again, if you're totally unwilling to read it (among a great many other things), then you're not really serious about what you say you want. just read Mao's little red book, for historical context on the document that the cultural revolutionaries actually lugged around. Both are available here.
