I have noticed the more I read the faster I am starting to overcome my abused shit of a life that I lived, WIthin days I completely stopped caring about people who made life hell for me. Anyways, I am looking for books which have characters that I can relate to, which go through shit and then become empowered / gain perspective etc. The book has to be practical (aka it offers me a story that I can swallow - wrapped in reality).
An example would be Flowers for Algernon, but that one just taught me some lessons, not exactly mind blowing or anything like that. Please help please =/?
It could possibly be a preachy book, but usually those become boring quick.
